About Our School

The school also provides good and spacious labs, library and smart classes to cope with present digital classrooms. The students and teachers make use of it to the maximum.

We also concentrate on the multi-dimensional development of the child. In order to achieve body and mind co-ordination the school is organizing various sports activities regularly with the help of special coaches. Students can take part in activities of his/her choice while a few of them are mandatory. The activities provided for the students include Softball, Badminton, Cricket, Kho-Kho, Hand ball, Basket Ball, Table Tennis, Foot Ball, Volley Ball, Skating, Judo and Karate.

A number of co-scholastic activities are also included for the all round development of students like English Vocabulary Quiz, G.K. Quiz, Science Quiz, Extempore, Debate etc.

San Thome Academy presents a vast range of games and sports facilities. Students remain involved in various sports and games to maintain their mental and physical health. The students are given training in various games like athletics, softball, martial arts, volleyball, cricket, basket ball, badminton, handball, yoga and other adventure sports.

It is said that a healthy mind needs a healthy body to reside. San Thome Academy provides training and guidance to maintain the physical fitness of the students from the early phase of academic life beginning from Nursery class which promotes accuracy in their mental and physical growth. Students opt the activity of their own choice and physical education experts guide and train them to reach the pinnacle in that particular activity.

These days physical education is regarded as an essential ingredient of the education system. The school pays attention to the all round development of the child and therefore provides the required infrastructure for the same. Health check-ups of the students are done at regular intervals and they are made aware of the health problems and their solutions.

Roller Skating:

Roller Skating involves moving on special shoes or attachments to shoes that have wooden, metal or plastics composite wheels. It is popular as a form of recreation and an organized sport for both children and adults. Athletes compete in speed skating. In speed skating competitions, the distances are 300, 500. Dance comprising compulsory choreography, singles and pairs both of which are freestyle routines. The First roller skates were made in Holland in the early 18th century. By 1970’s roller skating gained increasing popularity.

Since 2007, our students are being trained in roller skating. San Thomians have excelled in inter School and State level Roller Skating Competitions


Athletics plays a major role in maintaining not only physical but emotional and social fitness. It provides strength, endurance and flexibility to the various body muscles. W.H.O. recommends athletics for complete fitness. Various athletic events conducted are as follows:

1. Track events: The school provides infrastructure of 500m for all track events. Students participate in the inter house track events and Hurdle races of 100, 110mtrs. Time-trail methods are conducted to improve their speed.

2. Throwing and jumping events: School provides guidance in various throwing events like shot put, discuss throw and javelin throw. Jumping events like long jump and high jumps are conducted. Santhomians take part in athletic events in state and national level.

Soft Ball:

It is an interesting game which provides relaxation and increases the players strength, stamina, balance, co-ordination and energy. This game is similar to baseball and was started in the United States of America.

The game demands perfect co-ordination among players. Players learn the culture with game and numerous team based skills including sportsmanship, co-operation, organization, responsibility and endurance. In this game, many San Thomians have attained recognition at the national level and have brought glory.

Hand Ball:

This game was played by ancient Greeks. Modern Handball was first played by the end of 19th century. The real origin of the game can be traced to Denmark. It is one of the fastest game. School provides guidance and infrastructure for the same.

Hand ball is a lifetime sport which can be played at the junior level or the master's level. The skills developed in the hand ball benefit players in other sports and help one to become ambidextrous. Hand ball is the best overall conditioner according to the President's council in physical fitness. Handball maintains muscle strength, muscle endurance, power, speed, quickness, agility, flexibility, balance coordination and cardiovascular endurance.

Volley Ball:

Volley Ball is the one of the ancient games. This game enhances coordinative ability among players. This game provides strength to the muscles of hands of the players. It energizes the players and emphasizes on the importance of team work.

Young San Thomians have excel led in many a Volley Ball Competition.


Yoga is a comprehensive system linking body, breath, mind, intelligence, wisdom and spirit. Yoga helps in creating balance and harmony in body. It has been practiced in India since its very inception from time immemorial. It releases man from the best of materialism and help him rise in status spiritually, as well as bring about a radical change in the outlook on life.

Yoga includes “pranayam ,and asans”. Yoga is like a panacea for all the diseases. World Health Organisation has taken yoga as a subject as it enhances the mental, physical and emotional abilities of students. Yoga maintains the functions of hormones and its balance in the body.

In today's world of cut throat competition where man finds no time to exercise and keep fit. Yoga provides a holistic approach to health. San Thomians have outshined in their demonstrations in various camps organized.

Martial Arts:

It is an ancient art form that enhances mental and physical energy and raises the confidence level of the players.

The martial arts are codified systems and traditions of combat practices, which are practiced for a variety of reasons- self defense, competition, physical health and fitness, as well as mental, physical and spiritual development. It raises the level of self confidence. It brings over all development to the personality. It can be adopted as a career to reach new heights. It is an attacking game.

It includes various forms like Karate, Taekwondo, Wushu, Kick Boxing, Sqay Martial Art, Aikido, Throwing and Weapon based etc.

San Thome Academy provides training and guidance in various martial art techniques enabling students to participate and win medals at international level.

Jump Rope:

Jump rope can be used to improve both health and quality of life. Jump rope helps in maintaining body weight and increases cardio vascular fitness. It improves a person’s ability to perform daily tasks. Jump rope improves the muscle in legs and lower body.

San Thomians have participated and brought laurels to school at national level under the able guidance of the coach. It includes various forms like Double Dutch, singles jogging, 30 seconds and 3 minutes endurance test events, free style, master events etc.


The ancient game of kho-kho is recognized as Atya-Patya in the present age. Out of many indigenous games, atya-patya has health improving and recreational potential for one and all. By playing and acquiring the skills of this game, the player playing other traditional as well as modern games can achieve the good skills in them very easily. By playing atya-patya physical and motor fitness can increase in adolescents i.e. 13-16 age groups of students. San Thome Academy participated in the national level of Atya-Patya.

Table Tennis: Table tennis or ping pong was developed in China during the late 1800. Today it is a popular form of recreation and an international sport. The school provides infrastructure and training to students by experts of the field.

Our students have bought medals in Table Tennis for their outstanding performance. Badminton:

Badminton is an Olympic game which was invented by the British in Pune, India. In 1873, it was introduced by the Duke of Beaufort Badminton from which the game derives its name. The school provides four badminton courts and able guidance to the students by the experts. The School has participated in State level tournaments and begged medals.

Basket Ball:

Basket ball was invented in the U.S.A. in 1891 at an International YMCA Training school. It is a fast action game with lots of running and jumping and provides a good physical workout. It is a team sport that involves a lot of variety, including shooting, dribbling, passing, rebounding, defense and much more. The game builds endurance, improves balance and co-ordination. It helps in developing concentration and self discipline. It builds up muscles.

San Thome Academy provides two basket ball courts.

We have excelled in Inter School Matches.


The game of cricket has a known history spanning from the 16th century to the present day. The game developed from England. It is one of the world's most popular sports. Cricket improves endurance, stamina, physical fitness and hand-eye co-ordination. It is also good for cardiovascular health. The game is good for developing team skills. It helps in social interaction and development of team spirit.

The students of our school can avail Concrete Practice Pitches for the game.

Art and Craft:

The expression of emotions and ideas using colours, pencils and paper is drawing. All the art forms are a means to worship the Almighty; drawing is one such art form. Drawing is needed in all subjects. The creative assignments given in various subjects need the artistic talent of the student. It enables the child to maintain a relationship with the nature and develop concentration. Drawing helps a child to enhance foresightedness and imagination. The students get a chance to imagine and express themselves freely while drawing. This helps them to concentrate on other subjects. Use of various colour combinations helps reducing stress and other diseases. Students take part in national level drawing competitions and bring glory to school.

In the art and craft period students reuse the waste material and turn it into useful and decorative items. They learn the importance of reusing, reducing and recycling. It can be taken up as a career. It also supports and helps the children to be a good jewellery designer, interior decorator, fashion designer, animator, cartoonist etc. The annual functions and various celebrations in the school are beautified by the props made by students under the guidance and supervision of art and craft teacher. The school provides each child a space to express himself/herself.

Smart Classes:

Smart classes convert old and verbal teaching process into very interactive, interesting and effective teaching. It provides an audio-visual platform for teachers to explain concept of difficult topics in lively learning environment and helps children to learn the basic concept and enhance their grasping and conceptualization power and excel their potential. This year we are going to add twelve more smart class rooms with digital vision technology for effective usage.


मानव जीवन संगीत सं ओत-प्रोत होता है, मनुष्य ज्ञानशील जीव है, उसे संगीत से विशेष आनंद प्राप्त होता है। सभी पशु-पक्षियों को भी संगीत से आनंद प्राप्त होता है। मनुष्य जीवन सदा संगीत से अनुप्राणित होता है, वह नाना प्रकार के उत्थान, पतन, हर्ष-विषाद तथा राग-द्वेष आदि द्वंदात्मक भावों का केन्द्र है, जहाँ एक ओर जीवन की जटिल समस्या मनुष्य को चिंतित करती रहती है, वही दूसरी ओर संगीत मनुष्य को सारी चिंता से मुक्ति दिलाकर आनंद की प्राप्ति कराता है।

मानसिक तथा शारीरिक व्यथा से आहत होकर जब मनुष्य अति त्रस्त हो जाता है तब एक मात्र संगीत ही उसकी व्यथाओं का निराकरण करने की क्षमता रखता है। संगीत मानव हृदय तथा बुद्धि को संतुलित रखने में विशेष योगदान देता है, और यह संगीत कला ही है जो मानव को दानव बनाने से रोकती है, जिसकी वर्तमान समय में परम आवश्यकता है। जीवन की उत्कृष्टता के लिए मानव में निम्नलिखित पाँच बातों का होना बहुत जरूरी है:-

1. बच्चों का मानसिक एवं शारीरिक विकास।
2. स्वस्थ शरीर।
3. मन-विचारों का संतुलन।
4. लक्ष्य प्रापित की इच्छा।
5. विषम परिसिथतियों में दृढ़ रहना।

संगीत जीवन में उपरोक्त सभी आवश्यकताओं की पूर्ति करता है, जिसकी प्रमाणिकता आज के वैज्ञानिक युग में सिद्ध की जा चुकी है। संगीत की स्वर लहरियाँ जीवन में उल्लास का अनोखी सृषिट तक ही सीमित नहीं वरन इसका प्रभाव रोग निवारक भी है। शास्त्रीय संगीत के विभिन्न रागों को भिन्न-भिन्न रोगों में अपने चिकित्सकीय प्रभाव के लिए उपयुक्त माना गया है। म्यूजिक थैरेपी में सामाजिक, भावनात्मक, शैक्षणिक एवं शारीरिक उन्नति के लिए संगीत का विधिवत एवं व्यवहारिक प्रस्तुतिकरण होता है। एक मिनट में 60 बीटस का रिदम मनुष्य में सबसे अधिक तनाव घटाता है। अवसाद, अनिद्रा, माइग्रेन, डर और दर्द घटाने में एकाग्रता व याददाश्त बढ़ाने में यह मददगार है। एक स्वस्थ तनाव रहित विधार्थी श्रेष्ठ अध्ययन के लिए अति आवश्यक है। अत: यहाँ यह प्रयास किया जाता है कि विधार्थी संगीत विषय में रूची लेकर मन को शांत व एकाग्र बनाएँ और अपने अध्ययन को श्रेष्ठ कर जीवन को नया आयाम प्रदान करें।


कुछ लोगों का मानना है कि नृत्यकला केवल मनोरंजन एवं धन कमाने के अलावा कुछ नहीं है, जबकि वास्तव में हमें नृत्यकला के माध्यम से एक दुसरे की संस्कृति-सभ्यता, वेश-भूषा, रहन-सहन, आचार-विचार, भाव-भंगिता आदि से परिचित होने का अवसर मिलता है।

नृत्यकला सीखने से आध्यातिमक, बौद्धिक, मानसिक, शारीरिक, साहितियक, मनोवैज्ञानिक विकास होता है। इससे शिष्टाचार, यश, ऐश्वर्य व धन आदि की प्रपित होती है। प्रत्येक शुभ कार्य के प्रारंभ में र्इश्वर की प्रार्थना करना भारतीय परंपरा है। नृत्यकला र्इश्वरोपासना तथा मोक्ष प्रापित का सबसे सशक्त माध्यम है। इसे सीखने से मन शांत व कल्पनाशील बनता है जो कि, विधार्थियों के लिए अति उत्तम व उपयोगी होता है।

नृत्य के द्वारा शरीर के सभी अंगों का यथेष्ठ व्यायाम हो जाता है, इससे शरीर के सभी अंग सुडौल, स्वस्थ तथा लचीले बनते हैं जिससे शरीर सदैव स्वस्थ रहता है।

नृत्यकला का साहित्य से गहरा संबंध है। नृत्य के अनेक तोड़े साहितियक होते है। इन तोड़ों के अध्ययन, पठन, मनन से नर्तक साहित्य से जुड़ता है। इस प्रकार एक कुशल नर्तक को संगीत व साहित्य दोनों का अपेक्षित ज्ञान हो जाता है।

इस कला को सीखने से व्यवहार कुशलता व शिष्टता आती है।
